Day 3 - San Sebastián

We woke up at 4.30am this morning to get to the airport, so needless to say it's been a very long day. We arrived in San Sebastián at 8am and then caught a cab to our really cool apartment. We were greeted by a bright and bubbly owner who gave us fresh pastries, juice and beer haha! The apartment is awesome, we're super close to the beach, and we have a great view.

The only bad thing is that the weather has been pretty overcast here, we trekked it to the supermarket in the pouring rain. However there were quite a few times in the day that the sun came out! We grabbed a "bikini sandwich" for lunch which is quite popular in Spain, essentially it's a ham and cheese toastie. We have a lovely bakery just across the road from us and I really love the café con leche (it's been quite hard to find decent coffee so far). The buildings are picturesque and fit in perfectly with the casual, small beach town vibe San Sebastián evokes. The flowers in the windows are always a lovely touch.

We braved the wind and the rain to pay a visit to a much talked about tapas restaurant "La Cucharia del San Thelmo." We had slow cooked veal, pork and duck pasta. Chiara and I ordered a cider, after hearing that Spain is famous for them however to our disappointment this did not live up to our expectations, it had a real citrus/oily flavor and was served at room temperature, definitely prefer a chilled Sommersby! I'm guessing Spanish cider is for more of an acquired taste...

We visited the "old town," we felt it had quite a French/English vibe though at the same time there was a definite uniqueness, particularly in the colours. I really hope the rain dies off tomorrow as I'd love to get to the beach at some point!
