Then we headed to the Royal Palace. Boy it was hot, but after spending 4 days in the rain we didn't really mind. The palace is beautiful and the gardens are glorious, it was the perfect scene. Palacio Real de Madrid is the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family, but is only used for state ceremonies.
It is the largest palace in Europe by floor area. The interior of the palace is notable for its wealth of art and the use of many types of fine materials in the construction and the decoration of its rooms. We found the perfect restaurant to view the beautiful palace, we thought we'd celebrate this moment by ordering champagne haha. We didn't want to leave the weather was perfect, the sun was out and there was a slight breeze, so we sipped on our champagne verreryyyyy slowly!
In the afternoon we went to Mercado de San Miguel, basically an indoor market for foodies. Housed in a beautiful glass and wrought iron space, the food stalls here sell a huge selection of quality Spanish produce from all over the country. We grabbed some lunch here and sat outside in the sun to eat it.
As we ventured out that night we noticed all the main roads were blocked off and there were masses of people walking the streets, we began wondering what this was, it turns out we were in the gay and lesbian district and it was the last day of a "Mardi Gras" type festival haha - it looked like so much fun we started wishing we had bought tickets ourselves!! Music pumping, and people were literally dancing in the streets lol!
We admired the views and had a few drinks at Cirqulo de Bella Artes. An outdoor terrace bar, perched on top of one Europe’s most important art institutions, where big names such as Picasso came to study – the views of The city from here were breathtaking! It was difficult to capture the beauty on an iphone though as it was so dark - but I made an attempt anyway!
