Day 14/15 - Bergamo

Yesterday we arrived in Bergamo. We chose to stay in Bergamo as flights to Greece out of Venice were way to expensive so we decided to fly out of the Bergamo Airport near Milan. So essentially we didn't directly plan to visit Bergamo, however, for me, it has turned out one of the best cities. We didn't really do much yesterday, however the dinner we had last night was the best dinner we've had our whole Europe trip! We stumbled across 'Mille,' we didn't check the menu before walking in so once we went downstairs we thought it was going to be super expensive, it was definitely fancier than we thought it'd be...but it actually turned out ok. We got two free complementary appetizers, the first was pâtè and the second was octopus (which tasted like tuna.) All three of us ordered the spinach and ricotta ravioli, which was out of this world amazing, you could definitely tell the pasta was homemade!!! It was delicious!!

Today Alise and Chiara ventured off to Milan and I stayed in Bergamo, for some reason I was super intrigued by this city haha!! Bergamo is separated into two main areas, Città Alta (Upper Town) and Città Bassa (Lower Town). We're staying in the Città Bassa, so I thought I'd pay a visit to the Città Alta! Here's some pics of the Città Alta from the Città Bassa:

The best way to get to the Città Alta is to catch the Funicolare, which is essentially a cable car.

It was 26 today so as soon as I got to the top I grabbed an ice block, which really hit the spot!

I really wanted to find a place where I could check out the view from the top. As I was peering over the top, I noticed some pretty impressive mansions just below me, not a bad place to live at all.

I found the main strip in the upper city and walked along that for awhile. I was really amazed at what I saw, the food looked delicious, the clothes were gorgeous and near the end I found the cutest markets. For lunch I had a 2€ Tomato, Fetta and Basil focaccia, it was the best focaccia I've ever had in my life hands down, and I sat down to eat it in the beautiful Piazza Duomo, right across from the Biblioteca (Library). I couldn't have been more content sitting there in the sun, with such a picturesque view.

Biblioteca (Library)

As I was by myself I tried to stick to the main road, but I couldn't help myself I kept wondering off... From every angle there was amazing views of farms, houses and mountains. The city also had a very rich history, I won't bother recounting the details as it's 1213am and I have an early flight tomorrow, but I'd recommend reading a bit about it! I'd love to come back here, I noticed there's a university here, perhaps I'll come study here...haha. Ah Alise and Chiara are moaning at me to turn the light off so catch ya later!!!!
